Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for an Inpatient Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support Virginia Oncology Associates' hematology/oncology consult service at Sentera Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for Hematology/oncology patients in an inpatient setting with additional outpatient clinic duties based on practice need
  • Initiate and document appropriate interventions
  • Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol
  • Prescribe drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation
  • Assist in procedures
  • Round on patients
  • Assess patient and family needs and provide education
  • Promote/provide staff education
  • Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home setting
  • Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice
  • Maintenance of active hospital privileges
  • Conduct consults
  • Provide daily sign off to physician


Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Post MSN hematology/oncology nursing or Physician Assistant experience preferred
  • Inpatient skill set experience preferred
  • Experience in hematology/oncology preferred
  • Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment preferred
  • RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Must be willing to travel to the various hospitals and practice locations
  • May be requested to assist with weekend rounding
