What we are looking for

We are looking for an independent, environmental scientist to assist with the workload of diverse, challenging solid waste and environmental projects in Virginia and North Carolina. This position is based in the Richmond, VA metro area. You will provide support to our existing solid waste practice consisting of landfill and landfill gas design, construction, operation, and monitoring, for private and municipal clients. This position includes opportunities for landfill design (all phases, including construction plans, specifications and construction documents), analysis, monitoring, feasibility studies, regulatory compliance, report writing, and construction oversight. As new work develops, you will manage contact with clients, and manage the schedule and work product, consistent within SCS's quality control standards. You will report to the Project Engineer.

How you can make an impact

• A mixture of office and field work expected.
• Multi-media sampling (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air) and reporting.
• Compliance monitoring, permitting, document preparation, statistical analysis, and proposals.
• Prepare engineering plans and specifications.
• Oversight of construction activities.
• Long field days and work at job sites throughout Virginia and North Carolina can be expected with this position.
• Occasional overnight travel will be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or related field required.
• 2 years of experience in Solid Waste or Environmental.
• Experience using AutoCAD design software preferred and Microsoft Office software knowledge required.
• Field equipment and field sampling experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license with driving record in good standing required.

Pay range for this position is $60k-$73k per year depending on experience and location. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
